Dear Sea Dwellers,

The Sea Dwelling Web Site has just taken another makeover and now has includes the new SDC Video Channel.  The new videos will introduce you to all the sales reps, staff, take you through the warehouse on a virtual tour and so much more!  We plan to add video weekly and will have all kinds of great educational and instructional topics. You will see me in all my goofy glory along with many of our SDC team……so I hope you enjoy the experience.

Gigantic inventory remains the theme here at SDC combining that with a strong variety.  In our spare time, we continue to seek out new products and suppliers that will keep your customers smiling:)  We all know that enthusiasts love to see new products a the retail stores, and we understand the need for a fresh line up of products to show them.  It’s smarter to keep smaller shipments coming into your stores each week, rather than try to wait and do a larger shipment every other week.

With that in mind, we will soon be launching a new shipping program with Fed Ex for smaller multiple box shipments, say 4 boxes or more, where we will offer some of the strongest door-to-door rates we have ever seen.  More on this to come, but let’s start thinking of how we can take advantage of a super priced shipping rate that will make those smaller shipments affordable and super convenient. No more stress about going to the airport for only 4 boxes when you can have Fed Ex deliver for close to the same cost.  These multiple box shipments are not handled box by box either, so the chance of one box being left behind will no longer be a factor.  That’s nice!

So many new customers over the last few months, we are very grateful and want to welcome everyone to their new home to stay!  We have been listening very carefully to the concerns and problems that have led these customers to us, and we are making sure that we remain ahead of the rest, and fine tune the challenges that face us on a weekly basis.  We best deal with this by having weekly meetings with our staff and reviewing the doa claims each week for any patterns so they may be corrected quickly.  Every customer should know that they play a major part in our success, and the feedback, good and bad, is always taken with appreciation.  Keep it coming…….thanks so much for taking the time to let us know how your shipments have arrived.

Thanks for all those showing continued support each week….Everyone here really appreciates it.

Best regards to all,

Eric and the whole SDC Crew!

Dear Sea Dwellers,

Great times last week!  Thanks all!  Nice to hear the many success stories with so many shipments arriving well and appreciative customers.  What I said last week came true and we had the best fill rates of the year!  This week’s inventory is even better with large shipments arriving late last week, and over the weekend.  I am sure you all with be equally impressed with the stock level and added varieties of this week….it’s grand :) !

Something new this week is part of the future of SDC and providing our customers with the most popular items in the industry, and offering them at a price you can compete with against other online farmers.  We have seen zooanthid polyps break through the industry with some of the most exciting and extravagant names in the industry.  Easy to maintain, with all the beauty of the multiple colors within, we have searched for the brightest and most exotic colors and have cut and pasted them to industry standard frag discs with a plug base.  These nicely sized plugs are priced well to make them affordable and attractive to your retail customers.  Check out the pictures in the furnace this week to see these beautiful polyps.  We have also added some mixed colored packages together so you can choose a variety of the colors at a discounted price depending on how many you would like.

On the environmental front, I just was lucky enough to spend this past weekend in Mexico with the group of woman providing us with those beautiful Passer angels and other varieties we saw earlier last year.  I was there for a reunion with them and the local fisheries biologists to kick off the new permit and quotas for 2010.  This is the project I was so impressed with last year, that every collection site was strategically planned and studied before quotas for each fish and invert specie was placed on the permit.  This is one of the first of hopefully many to come methods of collecting ornamentals in a indisputable sustainable manner! And with the second year of success from this program, we will launch the label to go along with these fish.  Watch for the SMART label to come with your orders in the future.  These sustainable products are great for the industry and we hope to make the SMART label a household name.  SMART labels stand for Sustainably Managed Aquarium Resource Trade.  We truly hope that all of you will embrace such a program like this that is needed to improve the image of our industry. More on this to follow.

Thanks for all those showing continued support each week….Everyone here really appreciates it.

Best regards to all,

Eric and the whole SDC Crew!

Dear Sea Dwellers,

Sad news guys…….our good friend and industry member Rick Brenner has passed away after a long battle with Colon Cancer.  Rick was a great person and a personal friend.  Rick always treated people with great respect and was one of those people who had a special “ethic” about him.  Rick owned Jack’s Aquarium and had over a dozen  retail stores throughout Florida and Ohio.  Rick’s family has asked anyone interested to please make a donation in his name to either of:

St. Jude Children’s Hospital                           Ursulin Sisters of Mt. Joseph

Research Hospital                                         Attn: Sister Catherine Barber

501 St Jude Place                   OR                  8001 Cummings Rd.

Memphis, TN 38105                                       Maple Mount, KY 42356

We will miss Rick and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Also, this week’s tragedy in Haiti should not be overlooked…..please take the time to donate $10.00 or more to the American Red Cross to help in the relief efforts going on there.

On the business side of things…..we are taking things VERY seriously here at SDC.  Inventory strength has been the main focus and we have been calling out all resources to make sure we are stocked to the brim with the right product that you all need to run your business successfully.  We know that inventory level is just one of the many top priorities for us, but when we put together our top quality, pricing that has brought transshipping to it’s knees, along with our gigantic varieties…..it’s simply showing our desire and passion to make SDC the best place to source your marine livestock in the nation……period!  So don’t get left short at the airport baffled and disappointing when you are only receiving half of your order.  We want you to know that this will never happen to you if you choose SDC as your supplier and we have taken costly steps to make sure that does not happen to any of our customers.  We have very strict guidelines about our fill rates, and have even placed one of our best customer service reps as the “FILL-MAN” to makes sure every order has the opportunity to add or know what is coming in your order, BEFORE it leaves the packing tables.  NOBODY else does that or shows this kind of dedication.  Thanks for all of you who have called to tell us how much this service is appreciated…..YOU ARE VERY WELCOME, and we thank all of you for the support.

Last week, I mentioned to please be patient while we work out the video channel technical details.  I think we have a better solution this week, and the future is looking bright for the website update which will bring separate channels for different topics.  Some channels for example will be a Staff Channel where you can meet your sales rep, Instructional channel to teach those interested how to use/maintain new products or livestock, Daily Hotlist Videos etc……it’s gonna be awesome!  Click on the link to the right to see my welcome video….more to come!

Thanks to everyone that has already joined Reefcheck!  For those of you have not joined yet, please don’t forget to join Reefcheck and sign up for the refundable $25 membership.  We will credit you back on your next order so ultimately there is ZERO cost to you!  PLEASE support the environment and show Reefcheck that the Aquarium Industry truly does appreciate everything they do for us.

Thanks for all those showing continued support each week….Everyone here really appreciates it.

Best regards to all,

Eric and the whole SDC Crew!

January 3rd Newsletter (Happy New Year)

Dear Sea Dwellers,

As we embark into a new decade, we leave behind us one of much advancement in our industry.  There was a lot of change that had taken place over the last ten years, and we see a new wave of trends blazing their way throughout the hobby.  I see a bright future for our industry and hobby with all the success across the world in fish and coral farming.  Truly an exciting time for our industry and environment.

We enter into the new decade with a large amount of momentum carrying over from last year.  What is important here at SDC is that we continue to provide a very healthy product, at the best value you can find.  The popular consensus from all of you is that our quality has continued to lead our industry, but with the new value in lowered pricing, it’s simply super hard to beat our total package and we just keep plugging away to be better and stronger.

As we leave behind the last few years that have been very tough on most everyone, we keep the SDC tradition of working together to move forward out of the slumping economy and into a new generation of promise.  Together we stand….divided we fall.  This is the motto that we have taken years back,  and it has to be one of the reasons of our success today with so many of you.  I hope that as we work together and face the challenges of daily business, all of the Sea Dwelling family know that we stand behind our product and want all our customers to know that we want to be your loyal supplier for years and years to come!

Thanks for all those showing continued support each week….Everyone here really appreciates it.

Best regards to all,

Eric and the whole SDC Crew!
